The question I have today on my mind is "have we lost our minds?"  Obama and McCain are the contenders for the presidency because of the current stasis of the American society.  American politics have become just like a professional sport.  It is all about hype and false promises.

What is the most asked question of a professional sports athlete?  I would say it is "are you going to win next game time"?  The answer is always a boyish and shy "of course we are".  Because we all know you can win in America you just cannot enjoy it.  You will make the others feel bad.

Now, we have two people who I would judge as not having clear vision.  America needs to stay on the offensive in the war against terrorist.  In order, to do this America needs to be wise in interacting in a global economy.  Then, the citizen needs to be kept apprised of the challenge and continue to support America with their productivity.

However, these two candidates care more about playing politics then real initiatives.  Every time I here McCain and Obama speak its like listening to a person who just at that moment came up with what they are saying.  Some times the party line overtones are so blatant.  Moreover, to me they are not speaking to the issues of the times.

Personal money management would improve many people's lives.  Marriage and parenthood would increase a person's life experience.  The values of "setting goals" and "working productively" could help people find fulfillment and purpose.

Yet we have two candidates who believe that corporate salaries and personal wealth are the evils of the day.  Both McCain and Obama have voiced opinions about the need to control CEO salaries. I may not like companies taking unfair advantage of consumers and employees.  However, I would rather the consumer speak with his or her wallet by not doing business with unscrupulous companies.

Furthermore, my concern is how easily modern man tries to hide his real intent.  I know that morality suffers in the modern world.  In my opinion, lying is a major character flaw.  When a person states something because a poll told him or her that it is a popular position, in my opinion, he is lying because it is not his or her real position, just a position that can garner votes.

Now, given the choice between, Obama and McCain, I would take McCain.  He does not support abortion.  He has a strong sense for the need of a strong military.  He has proven himself when dealing with critical issues while in the senate.  In addition, he is not a democrat.

However, I have a lot of concerns about McCain.  I do not like his stance on "embryonic stem cell" research.  Don't care for him thinking it is okay to violate the principles of free market economy.  Never cared for his criticisms of Bush.  His need to play politics by finding the right thing to say, troubles me.  Either a person has values or he does not.  People who have life long values do not have trouble speaking about them.  When something is new people struggling speaking about it.

The problem is us.  I would like to say that I am completely mature and enlightened.  I am human and capable of mistakes.  Sometimes I even practice the vulgarity and viciousness that is practiced in our culture.  In my opinion, we as a species are in our worst days.

I know, however, that God has not abandoned us.  In addition, all of us have the awareness of right and wrong, yet we choose to be childish.  There is McCain and Obama.  They are products of the modern world maneuvering in an environment that has as a rule "you can only succeed if you lie and deceive".

Okay if that is them.  What about us?  Do we have anything left that resembles a conscious.?  Maybe, we are just so caught up by the influences of the modern world that we can no longer take a stance on principle.  Maybe we just do not believe in anything anymore.

Has life so bitterly disappointed us that we can no longer believe?  Listen, I am not looking to harm anyone who has been beaten up by life.  I just know that certain principles are conducive to progress.  I failed in getting married at 20 not knowing much about life or the woman I married.  This was my failure, not the federal governments.  It definitely is not the failure of those who made better choices.

If I had been bailed out, I probably would of not learn to stand on my own two feet.  It is a human condition to want to avoid responsibility.   Reading web sites in order to understand the issues is to much for some people.  Developing a personality of value is also work intensive for many.

However, I think this political season allows many of us the opportunity to grow up.  We can search our conscious and get in touch with the true values that contribute to personal success and personal fulfillment.  Then choose the candidate who mostly resembles these values.
