We believe we should be punished.
Published on March 21, 2006 By jesseledesma In Personal Relationships

It hurts because we think it should hurt. Through our life we have been receiving messages that we are to blame for what happens.

Blame is a bad thing. People who mess up are to blame and need to be punished. For some this means being spanked, locked in a closet, or been ridiculed by a parent and others.

That is right even as pre adults, young adults, or grown ups we fear the punishment that comes from doing something wrong

Some people have even been so abused as children that they feel everything is their fault.

And when something goes wrong they fear they are going to be punished. For them these could mean rape, sexual abuse, locked in closet, getting punched or kicked, or being called names.

I can tell you it wont get better if you do not get help. Trust me. I know the power of mental trauma very well.

I can give you hope. The only person that can hurt you with their thoughts and emotions is you. Even though people may want to treat you bad only you can allow them to.

Stop! I am not blaming you. No need to fear punishment here.

I am trying to help you by providing you a sound vantage point.

You are a good person. In addition, you have the right to a happy life. Anytime you want to, you can start working towards a better life.

I have learned to be realistic, positive, and maintain a healthy perspective.

For many years I did a big number on myself trying to get a college career and a so-called good paying job. In the interim I blamed myself for every bad grade and job interview that did not go well.

Today, I am manic-depressive with a lot of pain and suffering because of what I believe is a failed life.

Kind of strange for a person who describes himself the way I just described myself to think he can help any one.

Well I still love life. Till my death I will champion the good in life.

I can tell you there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It starts with loving your self, being nice to your self, being real, and taking care of your self.

Those people who are trying to kill your spirit are not worth your happiness. You are worth every thing.

The Bible says “...for God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten son. So who so ever believes in him can have ever lasting life”.

Look at the sacrifice God made. People spit on Him, slapped Him, kicked Him, dragged Him through the streets, and nailed Him to a cross.

Would He take all that on because you have no value? No He would not.

You are worth a lot. You are worthy of your dreams. All you have to do is start being nice to your self.

In addition, be honest if you have psychological complications, recognize it and be respectful of it.

I know I have to rest and keep my spirits up. I also know only I can keep abusive people out of my life.

I feel for all of you who are been punched, kicked, slapped, ridiculed, and made to feel with out value.

However, you have resources. There are shelters, county mental health clinics, police and sheriff, and family and friends.

Any time you want to start a new life you can.

The pain that comes with it can only hurt if you make the mistake of blaming your self and fear getting punished.

I would suggest it might be better to realize you are human, capable of mistakes, and also capable of learning from your mistakes.

I have learned a lot from my mistakes. The first thing I learned is to love my self.
