The big debate of the day is the president’s plan to increase the amount of military personnel in Iraq.
I have heard several democrats say that Americans spoke on Nov. 7, 2007 and they do not want a troop increase in Iraq.
Again, 60 percent of Americans do not think the security of the nation is important enough to be bothered to vote. The elections were close and I would say the distribution was 21% in favor of democrats and 19% in favor of republicans.
Therefore, I would find the statement that Americans have spoken in their vote a little fictitious by the democrats.
Moreover, almost everyone has known that if the Americans pull out then people like Mutada Al Sadir will rain chaos in Iraq. In my opinion, this will allow for a big breeding ground for Al Qaeda.
The case for the war in Iraq was simple. Under no circumstances could a person like Sadam be left alone to develop weapons of mass destruction, which could end up in the hands of terrorist.
In 1996 the UN weapons inspectors documented the amount of chemical and biological weapons Sadam had in Iraq. I do not believe Sadam was the type of person to invest in a weapon and then destroy it.
For me if the world community had spoken with a unified voice than Sadam may of chosen different actions and there would not of been a need for the war.
Unfortunately, to many leaders of nations were to interested in their own slice of the economic pie to stand with America.
Therefore, since the threat was very real America had to act. Now, where are these WMD’s? I think Sadam sent them to Syria or any other middle eastern country that would help him hide them. The possibility exist that there are so many under ground bunkers that Sadam built and the WMDS could be in many of these bunkers the American military has not found.
However, for today America just has to pacify Baghdad and the question of Iraqi security is answered.
Think of it. Of all of Iraq, there are only two areas that the Iraqis and Americans need to settle.
The question is will 20,000 more troops accomplish this pacification of violence.
I say if the Iraqi prime minister and the officials in the Iraqi parliament take their jobs seriously and start to work for peace and democracy then it will work.
Moreover, this last effort to help the Iraqis pacify their country will also offer the integrity America needs to pull out.
After these new military maneuvers, if the Iraqis fail, there is no moral obligation on the Americans to continue helping people who will not help them selves.
