Increase in food, restuarants, hotels, etc.

It is believed that 1.7 million americans earn $5.15 an hour. These people tend to word in fast food, hotels/motels, other restuarants, gorciery stores, wharehouse, pizza devliery and other low paying industries.

Look at what you are paying now and what you will pay after the wage increase and you will see the price of hotels, rental cars, and pizza go up.

Now people who are earning better than minimun wage won't have to modify their life because of these increases. However, the people the wage is suppose to help will have their new earning eating up by the increase in grocieries, fast food, healthcare, and other goods and services.

Seems to me the better answer for peole earnign low wages would be to work more hours, not a wage increase that is going to increase the price of living.

Nobody should rely on the government to have their wages "increased". If you want more money or a better life, then that is the responsibility of the individual, not the government. The other problem with "wage increases" are they are just a tool for politicians to appease their base of poor people. They don't take into account the possible consequences, to them it's just something they can say they did.

To Kingbee cab drivers are self employed and they make as much as they are willing to go out and hustle.

I would be interested in knowing the research on this. Is there a direct connection? Do the increases on both ends just even things out again? Being knew to this type of topic I'm not sure where to find such answers. Any suggestions?

Do you mean it is their responsibility to work more hours or get a better job? Do you disagree with any kind of wage increase, such as cost of living increases?

you own your cab and permit?

Yes kingbee, as of 7/25/2007 I am a owner operator. In addition, in stink water, Texas (el paso, tx) all cab drivers are selfemployed whether they own their own car or not.

You pay the rent on the car and what is left over is the drivers to keep.
