Just thinking out loud about space mining.
Published on August 8, 2007 By jesseledesma In Current Events
Where will Americans land on the race to space. We know that Americans were the first to the moon and the first with a space shuttle.

Other than that the Russians hold the other records. Russians were the first in space and they have the record for the longest stay in space.

This does not mean that the Americans are not do anything. A lot of science is conducted in the space shuttle missions. However, I think Americans are frontiersmen and do not like doing what has already been done.

Therefore, what could be the next great accomplishment for the Americans in space. This is hard to anwser. There is talk of a man mission to mars. However, do we really want to subject astronauts to the time investment to reach mars.

What may be a good idea is space minning. We all say that we are running out of valueable earth resources. Why don't we harness the elements in space.

I hear there is water and metals up there. Imagine what would happen to the American economy if America declared all of the universe's material resources under her control.

We would pay off all our debt and stop contaminating the planet by burning coal and manufacturing here on Earth. All manufacturing could be moved to space and the finished product sent to Earth.

Subject astronauts to the time investment to reach Mars? Why did they become astronaunts if not to do the unbelievable, regardless of the time commitment? If they don't want to go, don't, but I'm guessing there's a long wait list already.

"stop contaminating the planet by burning coal and manufacturing here on Earth. All manufacturing could be moved to space and the finished product sent to Earth."

Great... not only have we already polluted the Earth, but now that it'll never recover, we've decided to pollute the rest of the universe too.

As for it being America, I think you overestimate America. We can declare whatever we want, after all, but it's not going to help when other countries get up there. After all, all the space mining jobs will be outsourced.

The moon will be the next land grab. The race is already on for control over its real estate. The moon has one resource we know of that’s worth the expense to mine, and that’s Helium 3. Which is worth about 3 billion a tonne. If the moon were littered with gold bars it would cost more to get them than they're worth.

Google “Helium 3” if your interested in learning more.

the moon has one more resource or lack of one may be a better way to say it.

The more illegals we have, the more moon-miners we have, LW!

since when has it become racism to want to defend your country.

on the other hand we do have another border that is wide open. anyone can cross there with no challange. or little challange.

as for the fight between little whip and jessel. i would have to take his word for it since i don't know him. if little whip does know him then she may know better.

i fondly remember a bush speech in which he seemed to envision one day exploiting exterrestrial resources by establishing a permanent colony to exploit the moon's endless bounty of green cheese for transhipment to a martian processing plant.
