Life, employment, education, dreams, and hopes
I was thinking yesterday what would of happened if I had gotten a job as a caseworker. This would have been a job were I would be responsible for helping people with job, education, health, housing, and food needs.
Well in answering myself I came to the following conclusions. First, I would want to know “if the person has a fair sense of who he is. You would be surprised how many people do not know who they are in life. Many are just been knocked around by life and making mistakes with every step.
Part of knowing who you are is also knowing what you want out of life? This is another challenge for people. There are a lot of people who don’t know their dreams, hopes, wishes, and aspirations.
Now, before you stand up and say I know exactly what I want out of life I would ask are you sure?
Then, once you know whom you are and what you want you have to know if you are “fit for battle”. Mental health issues keep a lot of people from reaching their goals. They drain their energy, create serious problems, and interfere with their mood and spirit.
It is also good to have a good understanding of your education and work opportunities. No need to try to be a Marine biologist if you plan on living in a desert. In addition, the only jobs you can apply for are the ones that are listed in the classifieds or all those web pages. If the job or college major does not exist in your area you can drive your self crazy because it is not there, but that is not going to make the position or major appear.
Then there is good money management. Too many people are dreaming but they are not responsible with their money and that limits the funds they have to work with.
In addition, to wondering about what I would like to see in a person I also named a population as a test case. This population is of all the people who do not speak English, do not have an education, and have no verifiable work experience.
In my opinion these people would be out of luck. In the USA it helps to speak English. It also helps to have and education and verifiable work experience.
This does not mean there is no hope. You just have to be real about your beginning. For many people their beginning is getting a handle on that bad attitude where they think they know everything and do not have to listen to anyone. Fighting with college professor, managers, financial aid office staff, and anyone really is counter-productive.
There are rules and the way to succeed is by following the rules. That means you have to have dreams and goals, a plan of action, a good nature to deal with your issues, and good resource management. You need to maintain the car you drive, study, attend class, get to work on time, and treat people well.
Therefore, though this life may confuse us about our goals and how to achieve our dreams good common sense and hard work yields success.
Not even having severe mental health issues should stop us. In my mediation I can to the conclusion that one form of Schizophrenia would probably make life very hard to manage. But the problem is not in not being able to concentrate or stopping the habitual behaviors like rambling speech or leg and arm movements. The problem is not being able to accept the illness and work with its limitations.
Our society is good at giving us the message that if things do not work out the way we want we can cry like a baby and throw ourselves on the floor.
Yes there are disappointments. Divorce, death, illness, poverty, unplanned pregnancy, and many more stuff can get in the way of what we feel we have a right to in life. In our disappointment we can spend years beating our heads against the same old wall and never progress an inch.
I say “that if we are real about our reality and accept the truth” we can be much happier people.
There is nothing wrong with being a regular old person with a regular old job. Work means money and money pays the bills.
We should be happy that we have a home and a bed to sleep in. We should also be happy that we have a mind to think with and a body to put to work in getting our dreams.
In addition, we should be glad that we could recognize reality and be grateful for what we have.
Therefore, if I had made to be a caseworker I guess I would have told people to be grateful for what they have and have some concrete ideas about change and how to make change happen.
Oh, I almost forgot. I do not believe that a person who does not know Christ will ever be truly fulfilled. God made us for a purpose and knowing that purpose and working at that purpose is what brings about joy, happiness, pleasure, and satisfaction, in my opinion.
