Today, I have Iraq and America’s nuclear arsenal on my mind. I have been listening to the news and have heard some troubling comments. Mr. Obama was going on about nuclear disarmament.
I think the only reason the world has not gone to “hell in a hand basket” is because America has nuclear weapons. I do not trust France, Iran, North Korea, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, and any other nation that can develop nuclear weapons.
When the conversation of nuclear disarmament is begun “trust” has to be the central core. Other wise how can you be sure countries leaders will abide by agreements. In addition, we have many examples of “cheaters” around the world. When the USSR broke up, a lot of nuclear material disappeared.
Today, we live in a world of evil people and more attention to financial gain then morality. Russia seems to have no problem helping Iran with its “nuclear program”. The main reason is money.
Therefore, other nation’s people cannot be trusted to disarm. This is why it is important for America to keep her “nuclear arsenal” and develop better weapons. Leaders of nations who may have immoral designs will think twice is by know they have to face “nuclear fire”.
Now, this may not be an attractive position for many people. I know people fear nuclear bombs. Furthermore, many are under the impression that if nuclear weapons did not exist bad people couldn’t use them. This is a fallacy. Bad people will do what it takes to exercise their ideology.
In my opinion, it is naive of Obama to think that other nation’s leaders would be honest in their actions considering “nuclear disarmament”. Modern times definitely show a determined enemy. There are people willing to do what ever it takes. The only chance for humanity is that a nation of “good"" leaders controls "weapons of deterrence".
Now, on the issue Iraq I say it is time to "close up shop". There has been more than enough time for the Iraqi people to build a country that appeals to them. At March of 2008 it had been five years since America invaded Iraq.
Since that time it appears the Americans have been fighting in spite of the Iraqi people. Insurgents, politicians, and even some citizens have been obstacles to success.
I think it is important for the Americans to develop and exit strategy that will not lead to criticisms of Americans leaving after only doing half a job. In order for this to happen, the Iraqis have to be told of the American's expectations.
President Bush needs to meet with the leaders of Iraq and review actions taken to deal with the critical issues of Iraq. I personally want to know when Iraqi officials are going to build roads, schools, hospitals, banks, universities, and other societal necessities.
Now, it is not necessary for the American president to give resources to build these infrastructures. Only a discussion of the issues and a recognition by Iraq's leaders that they have to develop plans to deal with these demands is necessary.
The Americans have helped the Iraqis rebuild. In addition, they have helped secure Iraq. The only question in my mind is when are the people of Iraq going to start rebuilding their nation.
No one is saying the people of Iraq do not have challenges. There are many bad people who want to encourage disorder. On this issue there is only so much the Americans can do for the Iraqis. The rest of rebuilding is in the hands of the Iraqis.
